The nomination was made on behalf of the Norwegian Women's Peace Association. The International Council of Women actively supported the nomination. The Stead Memorial Fund was founded November 4, 1912, in memory of William T. Stead who died in the sinking of the Titanic. He was staunch peace activist, and he advocated arms limitation and international arbitration in the Review of Reviews which he founded in 1890 and of which he was editor until 1912. |
