Motivation:The International Committee of the Red Cross (Comité International de la Croix-Rouge) was founded in 1863 by Jean Henry Dunant. He initiated the negotiations that resulted in the Geneva Convention concerning the treatment of wounded soldiers (1864). The Red Cross Committee was particularly active from 1914, trying to make the belligerents respect the Geneva convention. The Committee also set up an agency that provided information on prisoners of war.
